Arapo was born and raised in the Rotorua area and has been carving for more
than 6 years. He first learnt to carve while at Rotorua Boys Highschool
using wood. His teacher suggested he apply for a position at Te Takapu o Rotowhio. Arapo’s application was successful and he studied under Lewis Gardiner and Stacey Gordine, graduating 3rd intake at Te Takapu o Rotowhio.
Arapo is passionate about preserving and educating others in Maori arts and culture. He has been with Puawai Jade for over a year, working alongside Niki Nepia (carver and operator of Puawai Jade) to further improve and develop his carving skills.
